Anyone who claims to know the secret of floating the right way is probably lying or has no idea what they are talking about.

Floating is an objective experience that everyone lives through differently. There is no right or wrong way to float.

Anyone who has a floating experience behind them will arrive at a different conclusion about the right way to float.

When it comes to floating there is no rule for how to do it, but tips from experienced floaters can help.

Surrender to your mind

The biggest mistake made by floaters coming to float for the first time is having expectations that are too high or even unrealistic.

It makes no sense to form an opinion about floating based on an experience a friend has shared with you, because your own path to relieving stress can be completely different. Do not try to follow the strategy of someone who has described a positive experience to you.

Let go and observe what your mind is doing and what suits it. The purpose of floating differs from one floater to the next. One person comes to float to manage musculoskeletal pain, while others are seeking complete, deep meditation.

The purposes of floating are endless, and we have to understand that during floating our body and mind take exactly what they need. Because the needs of our body and mind change from day to day, each subsequent experience can be different.

Accept the challenge

Floating can be an excellent test of your discipline and patience.

Staying still during a float that lasts 60 minutes is not easy. With their first experience, most floaters find it hard to enter the R.E.S.T. state or to become completely still.

Begin much as you would with any other practice. To start, set yourself a goal of 30 minutes, then extend your floating time by 5–10 minutes every week or every 14 days.

For the best results there is no need to float 2 hours a day; start gradually so that you reach the goal you have set. This way you will not lose the will and the courage to float, while your brain and body slowly grow accustomed to the state you are exposed to during floating.

It is interesting to discover just how hard it is to do nothing.

Practice makes perfect

It may sound strange, but even floating will require practice if you want to become a master of floating.

You yourself will discover and develop a floating technique that is optimal for you and brings you the greatest benefit. As we have already mentioned, there is no right or wrong way to float, because every individual is unique, and so is their floating technique.

However, you do need to bring a certain degree of conviction and commitment to the floating process.

Things such as floating on an empty stomach, avoiding caffeine before floating, and staying well hydrated contribute to the quality of the float, but they have little impact if your mindset is not in the right place. Before you decide to float, you have to understand that it will take some time before you master floating and before the results come. Every individual’s experience is different!
